AYT Note: This blog is a part of the Sweaty New Zealand Challenge Series: 15 days & 15 ways to sweat. The purpose of an Athlete. Yogi. Traveler. Adventure is to take ourselves off the beaten path and into new territory. New places, new people, new scenery, new ways to sweat. Game on.
If you find yourself in Marlborough, the famous wine region of New Zealand, there’s no better place to stay than on a working vineyard. You’re literally in the thick of it all and most likely a short walk or cycle away from more wine tastings you can make in one day (we tried). Besides sampling as much local wine as you can (we also tried), what better way to celebrate and embrace the endless rows of vines just outside your window than to actually run through them!
- Disclaimer: Be sure to check with the owners of the vineyard you plan to run through to ensure this odd activity is permitted.
- This is quite a tough workout on the legs thanks to the overgrown grass you may encounter. Consider this a chance to work on your high kicking skills.
- If you end up high kicking it, your quadriceps and calves will feel it tomorrow!
- Bonus: Outdoor yoga right after your run! Perfect spot? Your private deck overlooking the endless rows of grapes.
