How we position our body (posture) can send a specific message to others, before we even speak a single word. Confident, angry, scared, open, happy, cocky. We are constantly observing and assessing the body language of others. If you look at a lineup of athletes pre-game, we see those who we might perceive as confident, as they stand tall, open, and at ease. Yet is this actually how they feel? Can body language actually influence our own confidence and mood?
Let’s find out!
“Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how ‘power posing’ — standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.”
