If you ask Mr. Fantastic Google, the definition of proactive is: Creating or controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding to it after it has happened.

So instead of getting sick, over-stressed, injured or succumbing to adrenal fatigue, you’re saying I can be proactive about my health while creating a life I love? Hold on. Can you actually create a lifestyle that is so awesome, you feel your best every day?

Of course you can. Yet that is up to you.

And that’s why we’re here. We get it. We understand (all too well) that to be proactive in anything, we need to be constantly adapting, evolving, and ultimately “creating”. We are dedicated to exploring global proactive lifestyle practices, giving you the inspiration and means to create your own healthy & happy lifestyle. Hey, you earned it. It’s your life, after all.

Your lifestyle includes all that you do, 24 hours a day. If you want to be proactive about your health, you need to be proactive about your lifestyle. To live a proactive lifestyle, you need to address everything you do and don’t do, 24 hours a day. It’s a viciously beautiful cycle. What makes up your lifestyle?

Let’s look at the big influencers (ahem, your lifestyle) – meaning, everything. From how (variation) you stand, walk, sit, run, drink, breathe, jump, crawl, climb, hang, yodel, think, talk, eat, sleep, to how you move throughout the day. Oh, and let’s not forget how often (frequency) you do or don’t do all of these. And to top it all off, how long do you do these for? Okay, so even if yodeling isn’t your cup of tea, I know you’ve got your own creative outlets. (I’m guessing Dance Party USA. Personally, I’m all about singing made-up lyrics paired with awkward tunes. It’s pretty awesome. It’s clearly one of the perks why my husband married me.)

There are several ways we can break down the details of one’s lifestyle. From social life to career to travel to sleep, etc. Yet we respect that every individual’s life is completely unique to their own. The one thing we have in common is that we all have a body of some kind. The human body has been evolving for thousands of years. If you get down to the evolutionary nitty gritty, it was designed to survive, which requires the ability to move, eat, think, and on special occasions, reproduce. Everything else is pretty much extra bonus awesomeness (including watching all the Fast & Furious movies).

Let’s talk about the first three, move, eat, think. These three necessities to your human nature will influence everything else you do in life, including reproducing.

The quality in which you move, eat, and think will determine whether you are simply surviving, or truly thriving.

You might have been thinking while reading over the 3 key lifestyle topics of movement, nutrition, and thinking, life is a bit more complicated these days. Many of us play competitive sports, go to school, have a job, own a house, go on vacation, and so on. So where on earth (literally), does all that fit in? Let’s call it the modern culture.

Over the last 100+ years, the majority of the world’s population has been transitioning in this said modern industrialized culture. We’ve got chairs, phones, computers, couches, organized and competitive sports, cars, paved roads, shoes, public transportation, and airplanes (to name a few). While I am truly grateful for these amenities, we can’t ignore the fact that the human body was not designed with these influencers in mind. Eeek! Wait, they weren’t??

When the anatomically modern human came to be, around 200,000 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Homo Sapien were not sitting on their couch with their head craning forward while texting each other, snacking on a low-fat turkey and cheese sandwich. They weren’t even playing a game of water polo or training for a CrossFit competition. They were living off the land, hunting when possible, and foraging for seasonal nuts and berries. Can you imagine a day in the life of? Mr. and Mrs. Homo Sapien were active folk!

In context with evolution, our “recent” time-saving and comfort-inducing amenities have altered how we use our body and brain. The quality and variety of foods we consume has changed. And not always for the better. Just because we workout for 4 hours in one day does not make it okay to sit and binge watch 4 hours of Breaking Bad (guilty as charged). Just because we wear thick soled running shoes does not mean it’s okay (for our joints) to strike our heels on the cement with every step.

Addressing the modern lifestyle is an essential piece of the puzzle when figuring out how the heck to live a proactive lifestyle. Let’s put the pieces together. Find out how…
